More Than Wreaths: How a Myrtle Beach Holiday Tradition Helps Local Kids

The holiday season in Myrtle Beach is filled with traditions that bring people together.
From festive gatherings and Christmas decorations to community events throughout the Grand Strand, there's something special about this time of year. For the Kiwanis Club of Myrtle Beach, one of our favorite traditions is the annual Festival of Wreaths, an event that brings holiday creativity, local businesses, and community generosity together for a wonderful cause.
This year, our Festival of Wreaths returns November 12–15, 2026, as part of the Dickens Christmas Show & Festivals in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Behind the beautifully decorated wreaths is a purpose that's especially close to our hearts: supporting children right here in our community.
A Myrtle Beach Holiday Tradition With a Purpose
The Festival of Wreaths is about much more than Christmas decorations. It's an opportunity for neighbors, businesses, and volunteers to come together and help make a difference for local children.
Each year, beautifully decorated wreaths become part of a festive display at the Dickens Christmas Show & Festivals. Local businesses and community supporters can participate by decorating wreaths, sponsoring them, or contributing to the event.
The finished wreaths help raise funds that support the Kiwanis Club of Myrtle Beach and our ongoing efforts to serve children throughout the Myrtle Beach area.
It's a simple idea with a meaningful purpose. Something as familiar as a holiday wreath can help create opportunities for children, strengthen local programs, and bring our community closer together.
And that's what makes this tradition so special to us.
Supporting Children Throughout Myrtle Beach and Horry County
At Kiwanis Myrtle Beach, we believe children deserve opportunities to learn, grow, and feel encouraged by the community around them.
Our members work throughout the year to support local children and schools through programs that recognize achievement, encourage reading, and celebrate the potential in every child.
One of those efforts is our Reading for the Kids program, which brings Kiwanis members into local classrooms to share stories and spend time with students. Reading together helps encourage literacy while showing children that adults in their community care about their education and success.
We're also proud of our involvement with Terrific Kids, a Kiwanis program that recognizes students for their positive attitudes, personal growth, and achievements.
These programs reflect what our club is all about. We want children in Myrtle Beach and Horry County to know they have people cheering them on.
Community fundraising events like the Festival of Wreaths help us continue that work and find new ways to serve.
Local Businesses Make a Big Difference
One of our favorite parts of the Festival of Wreaths is seeing how local businesses get involved.
The Myrtle Beach business community has a long tradition of supporting local causes, and we're grateful for the people who recognize the importance of investing in the next generation.
Businesses can participate in the Festival of Wreaths by sponsoring or decorating a wreath. It's an opportunity to be part of a beloved Myrtle Beach Christmas event while helping support programs that benefit local children.
The creativity that goes into the wreaths is always something to appreciate. Each one reflects the time, thought, and generosity of the people who helped bring it to life.
For us, the real beauty isn't just in the decorations. It's knowing that behind each wreath is someone who chose to support their community.
That kind of local involvement is what keeps organizations like Kiwanis Myrtle Beach moving forward.
The Volunteers Who Bring It All Together
Holiday events don't happen on their own, and the Festival of Wreaths is no exception.
Behind the scenes are Kiwanis members and volunteers who give their time to help organize, prepare, and support the festival.
From helping with wreath displays to welcoming visitors during the Dickens Christmas Show & Festivals, our volunteers play an important role in making the event possible.
This year's festival also offers a particularly festive volunteer opportunity. Those helping work the Festival of Wreaths will dress in Charles Dickens-era attire, adding to the traditional Christmas atmosphere of the show. Volunteer shifts are approximately three hours.
It's a fun way to experience one of Myrtle Beach's seasonal events while supporting a meaningful local cause.
We appreciate everyone who lends a hand, shares their talents, or helps spread the word. Every contribution matters, and we're grateful for the people who make time to serve alongside us.

Giving Thanks for a Community That Cares
November is also a time when many of us reflect on the people and experiences we're thankful for.
At Kiwanis Myrtle Beach, we're especially grateful for our members, volunteers, local businesses, schools, and community partners who help us serve children throughout the year.
Our work wouldn't be possible without people who are willing to show up, share ideas, and offer their support.
As Thanksgiving approaches and Giving Tuesday follows on December 1st, we're reminded that generosity takes many forms.
Sometimes it's a financial contribution. Other times it's volunteering for a few hours, donating supplies, sharing information about a community event, or simply taking the time to encourage a child.
Every act of kindness has value.
And when those acts of kindness come together, they can have a lasting impact on the community we call home.
